Albany Racers // Trailer Parking and Schedules

Racers competing at Albany –

Thank you for your TQ Midget or Slingshot entry into the first annual Indoor Auto Races at Albany’s Times Union Center. Please find the information you will need for trailer parking and unloading at the Center. It is much the same situation used successfully in Allentown.

If you forget to bring the below Trailer Parking and Unloading information with you it will also be available on our website, indoorautoracing.com. Please note that the Champ Karts have been added to Saturday’s program. They have arranged their own trailer parking area at a different location so please don’t get confused.

RACER TRAILER PARKING & UNLOADING PROCEDURE

MARSHALLING YARD – All trailers must report to the Gorman Terminals Lot, 290 Riverside Avenue, Rensselaer, NY 12144 before going to the Times Union Center. Albany is the capital of New York and finding large parking areas is hard to find on a week day so this company, located just five miles away, has allowed us to park at their lot. We can not back up traffic in the city, so all trailers must go there first and then be sent over in groups to the Times Union Center.

The Gorman lot will be open for early Thurdsay night arrivals from 6 to 9 pm. There will also be a shuttle available during these hours to take you back to the host hotel the Holiday Inn Express and return you to this lot in the morning. Trailer parking will continue on Friday morning beginning at 7 am.

Starting at 7:30 am on Friday we will start sending trailers from the Gorman Lot to to the arena to start unloading. When you arrive at the Gorman lot you will be given a numbered windshield placard that you must have to be allowed to unload at the arena. Anyone without that placard will be sent back to the lot.

Directions from the Gorman Trailer Parking Lot to the Times Union Center –

Head North on Riverside Ave and continue straight as Riverside turns into Stewart Port Expressway. Continue straight as Stewart Port Expressway turns into South St. As soon as you pass under Rt 9 & 20 turn left for access road towards 9 & 20 west. Turn right onto 9 & 20. Follow until you pass over the Dunn Memorial Bridge. Stay in lane for S pearl St. Take S Pearl St Exit and follow straight at bottom of ramp. Cross over S Pearl St (Times-Union Center is on the right. Take first right behind Times-Union Center. It is a one lane road that has a stop sign at its entrance as well as Do Not Enter/Authorized Vehicles Only signs. Follow down to loading dock area and follow directions of Indoor Racing staff there.

– From the time you drop your trailer door you will have 10 minutes to unload your car, tires and all tools and parts that you wish you bring into the arena.

– During unloading you will need two people, someone to stay with your equipment and someone to stay with the truck and trailer. Anyone that exceeds their time limit for unloading will be penalized first with practice time and then with time trial or heat race starting position. We all need to work together.

– As soon, as you are done unloading, your truck and trailer will be sent back to the Gorman parking. We will shuttle your driver back from the lot to the center. It will also be available for you to use if you need to run back to the lot for spare parts during the weekend. Check with official Jimmy Wilson at the grinding area if you need a ride to this lot.

Times-Union Center back to Gorman Trailer Yard –

When leaving the loading dock area go straight up the hill which is Wendell St. Take to end and turn left onto Howard St. Take to end and turn right onto Eagle St. Turn right at light onto State St. There is no turn on red at this light. It takes a while to cycle through and the cops like to watch it so be patient. Take State St to S Pearl St and turn right. Follow S Pearl St back past Times-Union Center and make a left onto ramp for Rt 9 & 20 towards Rensselaer and follow directions back to trailer yard.

After The Event On Saturday Night –

– You will be directed to a location where the shuttle busses will pick you up to return driver only to the trailers at the Gorman lot. Once again, trailers will be sent back to the Times Union Center in group so they don’t block spectators trying to leave the area or other local traffic.
